What are Banner Placeholders?

What is a Banner Placeholder?

A Banner Placeholder is a visual "marker" you can drop into your product grid within our platform. It represents the space where a non-product content block (like a marketing banner, newsletter sign-up, or collection advert) sits on your live website.

Note: This feature is not a tool for uploading, designing, or managing your actual front-end banners. This feature is strictly to preview the merchandising layout on the dashboard exactly as it appears on the storefront.

Why use Banner Placeholders?

Without placeholders, your merchandising grid looks like a continuous wall of products. However, if your live site has a large banner in the 5th position, your 5th product actually shifts to the 6th spot.

By using placeholders, you can:

  • See exactly how banners push products down the page.

  • Merchandise more effectively around the content blocks. For example: Pinning products that are complemetary to the banner/content block.

How it Works

The goal is to mirror your storefront's logic. Depending on how banners or content blocks are positioned on your collection pages, you can mirror the collection front-end layout on the merchandising edit page.

To create banner placeholders:

  • Navigate to the collection edit page on the dashboard and click on 'Banners'

  • Click on '+ Add banner placeholder'

  • From the pop-up, you can update information like:
    • Banner title: This is to label the placeholder for identification and will only be visible on the dashboard.
    • Banner pages: Enter which pages of your collection are banner/content blocks displayed.
    • All pages: If the banner/content blocks repeat in the same positions across all pages of your collection, you can turn the 'All pages' toggle to avoid entering each page manually.
    • Banner Positions: Enter which positions on each page the placeholders need to occupy

    • If banner/content blocks replace product slots on your collection front-end, check the box highlighted below. If banner/content blocks occupy
additional product slots instead, leave it unchecked.

Key items to note:

  • Adding or moving a placeholder in our dashboard will not move the banner on your live website.
  • If you change your banner positions in your Shopify theme or other platforms, remember to update your placeholders in the Tagalys dashboard to keep your preview accurate.
  • Products will automatically "flow" around these placeholders, just as they do on your live site.
